Note from the webmaster: We update this web site at least once a week during our summer concert season. To say that we’re excited is an understatement - this concert will be the first in 21 months and we can hardly wait to get to the park to see all our friends again! Our conductor for this return-to-normalcy concert will be long-time Burlington band director Jim Priebe. Jim is retired after a career teaching in the Burlington schools and, when not conducting, plays the trombone (and occasionally the euphonium) in the band.
The concert program will be chosen from among the following pieces: The Star Spangled Banner arranged by Henry Fillmore; Armed Forces Salute including The Caisson Song (the Army), Semper Paratus (the Coast Guard), The Marines Hymn, The U.S. Air Force, and Anchors Aweigh (the Navy), arranged by Bob Lowden; La Bella Roma by John Cacavas; The Teddy Bears’ Picnic by John W. Bratton arranged by Paul Yoder; The Klaxon March by Henry Fillmore; Disney at the Movies including Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes, Never Smile at a Crocodile, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, The Bare Necessities, Under the Sea, Beauty and the Beast, Be Our Guest, Friend Like Me, A Whole New World, This Land, Circle of Life, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and Colors of the Wind, arranged by John Higgins; The Mandalorian by Ludwig Goransson arranged by Paul Murtha; Bravura March by C.E. Duble; Tribute to Louis Armstrong including Basin Street Blues, High Society, Mame, Hello Dolly, and When the Saints Go Marching In, arranged by John Edmondson; The Wizard of Oz including Over the Rainbow, Ding, Dong, The Witch is Dead, We’re Off to See the Wizard, The Merry Old Land of Oz, and If I Only Had a Brain, by Yip Harburg arranged by James Barnes; and our traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
This return-to-normal concert will feature the band’s traditional Teddy Bears’ Picnic event in which we ask the kids (and kids at heart) to bring their Teddy Bear or other favorite stuffed toy. This year, because of COVID, (this part is not quite a return to normal) we are exercising an abundance of caution and will not have the usual Teddy Bears’ parade. Instead we’ll ask the kids to stay in place with their families and wave their Teddy Bears as we play the Teddy Bears’ Picnic song. We hope to see a HUGE number of waving Teddy Bears out there!
One of the unfortunate effects of the pandemic was that the band was not able to play for the American Legion’s Memorial Day ceremonies this year. We profoundly believe in the importance of honoring our nation’s fallen heroes and its veterans and we are going to do so as a part of this concert by performing the Armed Forces Salute and asking our veterans to stand when the anthem of their service branch is played.
