Note from the webmaster: We update this web site at least once a week during our summer concert season. Since the program for each Sunday concert is finalized at our rehearsal on Monday evening, we generally post the week's update sometime on Tuesday. Unfortunately, if you are viewing this page on a summer Monday, what follows will undoubtedly be the information for YESTERDAY'S concert.
Derrick’s selections will include: Spring Lake Overture by William L. Ballenger; Hymn to Red October by Basil Poledouris arranged by Jerry Brubaker; Victory at Sea, a “symphonic scenario” by Richard Rodgers, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett; Hands Across the Sea March by John Philip Sousa arranged by Harold R. Gore; Titanic, from the Twentieth Century Fox movie of the same name, by James Horner arranged by Calvin Custer including Southampton, Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch, Hard to Starboard, and My Heart Will Go On; The Glory of the Yankee Navy by John Philip Sousa arranged by Frederick Fennell; From Sea to Shining Sea, a fantasy based on America the Beautiful by Samuel Augustus Ward, “paraphrased” by Maurice C. Whitney; A River’s Fury! by James Swearingen (This one hits close to home!); It’s a Small World, from the Walt Disney attraction, by Richard M and Robert B. Sherman, arranged by Warren Barker; and our traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
Not all of our conductors choose “themes” for their concerts. But Derrick has chosen a theme that seems most appropriate for Burlington in this summer of rain and flood. His theme is water. All of his selections (with the possible exception of one) have a connection with water in some manner. We think his choices will entertain you and we just hope that he’s not tempting fate – we depend on the rain staying away during our concerts, after all!
