Note from the webmaster: We update this web site at least once a week during our summer concert season. Since the program for each Sunday concert is finalized at our rehearsal on Monday evening, we generally post the week's update sometime on Tuesday. Unfortunately, if you are viewing this page on a summer Monday, what follows will undoubtedly be the information for YESTERDAY'S concert.
Janel has chosen selections that represent a wide variety of musical styles and all are excellent compositions or arrangements that exploit the potential of the concert band medium. She says that the "theme" she chose for this concert is "music that she likes!" Her selections will include Brookpark by James Swearingen, Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance, Down a Country Lane by Aaron Copland transcribed for band by Merlin Patterson, Declaration in Blue by Robert W. Smith, The Purple Pageant by Karl King, Blue Ridge Saga by James Swearingen, ...music speaks by Randall Standridge, The Syncopated Clock by Leroy Anderson, American Riversongs by Pierre La Plante, John Williams: Movie Adventures arranged by Michael Sweeney, and our traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
It was great to see all of our friends back in the park for the "Teddy Bear Picnic" concert. We greatly enjoyed having eight talented middle school students performing with us as a part of our educational outreach program - it's a wonderful way to begin the summer! It's so good to be back and playing again!
Don't forget that, in the event of rain, the concert will move to the James Madison Educational Center Auditorium at 2132 Madison Avenue.
