Note from the webmaster: We update this web site at least once a week during our summer concert season. Since the program for each Sunday concert is finalized at our rehearsal on Monday evening, we generally post the week's update sometime on Tuesday. Unfortunately, if you are viewing this page on a summer Monday, what follows will undoubtedly be the information for YESTERDAY'S concert.
The concert selections will be chosen from among the following: American Legion Forever by Morton Gould, transcribed by Philip J. Lang; American Patrol by F.W. Meacham; Rhapsody Americana, a medley of American folk tunes by John Higgins; God Bless America by Irving Berlin arranged by Bill Holcombe; Majesty of America by David Bennett; American Folk Rhapsody by Clare Grundman including My Little Mohee, Shantyman's Life, Sourwood Mountain, and Sweet Betsy from Pike; Tango Americano by Henry Mancini; America arranged by John Cacavas; Santa Ana's Retreat From Buena Vista by Stephen Foster arranged by Robert L. Leist; Fantasy on American Sailing Songs by Clare Grundman including Hornet and Peacock, Lowlands, Drunken Sailor, and Rio Grande; and our traditional closing march, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
BHS band director Derrick Murphy will be our conductor for the July 3rd concert. Derrick regularly plays trumpet with our band, as well as with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, the Southeast Iowa Brass Quintet, and various other regional groups. In keeping with the concert's proximity to the Independence Day holiday Derrick has chosen as his theme "A Celebration of America." We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate this most American of holidays.
